The City of Dallas in Texas, US, has confirmed a ransomware attack took down essential services, including some 911 dispatch systems. 

“Wednesday morning, the City’s security monitoring tools notified our Security Operations Center (SOC) that a likely ransomware attack had been launched within our environment,” the City wrote in a press release. “Subsequently, the City has confirmed that a number of servers have been compromised with ransomware, impacting several functional areas, including the Dallas Police Department Website.”

The City of Dallas, Texas, confirmed to Cybernews it has been hit by ransomware. The Wednesday morning attack is still affecting city services with no sign of ending soon as cyber experts work to restore network systems.

As we reported May 3, the ransom attack caused the Dallas City Hall servers to go down and knocked the Dallas Police Department (DPD) website offline, although officials say 911 emergency services to residents are unaffected.

World Password Day or Passwordless Day?

Ahead of World Password Day 2023, Google solidified its push to ensure passwordless authentication in the future. This week, the company began rolling out support for passkeys for Google accounts for all its platforms — Chrome, ChromeOS, and Android.

Ian Leysen, CEO, CSO, and co-founder of Datadobi, told Spiceworks, “World Password Day is also a reminder that as the frequency of data breaches and cyber-attacks continue to rise, we cannot rely on passwords alone.”

Surely not. Second data breach of 2023, as number of security breaches continue to pile up at US mobile operator T-Mobile

T-Mobile USA is once again in the headlines for yet another breach involving customer data – making this its second data breach in 2023 alone.

Bleeping Computer reported that T-Mobile had discovered that attackers had gained access to the personal information of hundreds of customers for more than a month, starting from late February 2023.

This is the second breach for T-Mobile this year, after it admitted in January that attackers had stolen data on 37 million customers, including billing addresses, phone numbers, email, dates of birth and T-Mobile account numbers.
