US Healthcare Giant CommonSpirit Hit by Possible Ransomware

One of the largest non-profit healthcare providers in the US has been hit by a suspected ransomware attack which has already impacted multiple locations around the country. CommonSpirit claims to run over 1000 sites and 140 hospitals in 21 states. In a brief message yesterday it said it had “identified an IT security issue” affecting some facilities.

“We have taken certain systems offline. We are continuing to investigate this issue and follow existing protocols for system outages,” it continued. “We are grateful to our staff and physicians, who are doing everything possible to minimize the impact to our patients. We take our responsibility to our patients very seriously and apologize for any inconvenience.”

Cyber group RansonEXX took responsibility for stealing the company’s information, Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera said. They claim the hackers have leaked 7GB of data, including internal documents, technical sheets, repair instructions, and other documents.

According to Reuters: MILAN, Oct 3 (Reuters) – Ferrari (RACE.MI) said on Monday some internal documents had been posted online and the luxury sports carmaker was working to identify how this had happened. It will implement all the appropriate actions as needed, it said in an emailed statement.

Ex-NSA Worker Caught Selling Classified Papers Stolen Through System Misconfiguration

In what has proven to be a highly incriminating sting operation by the FBI, a former intelligence worker has been apprehended for attempting to leak top-secret information. The employee, Jareh Sebastian Dalke, worked at the National Security Agency (NSA) for less than a month in 2022. Jareh Sebastian Dalke, a 30-year-old resident of Colorado Springs, was employed at the NSA as an Information Systems Security Designer from June 6, 2022, to July 1, 2022. During his short stint at the agency, Dalke managed to procure and print three classified documents using his top secret clearance.
