Losses to Cybercrime Surge to $10.2 Billion Riding on Investment Fraud

Cybercriminals fleeced Americans off a whopping $10.2 billion in 2022, up 47.82% from $6.9 billion in 2021. This is not an easy feat, especially considering complaints fell 5% compared to the previous year. According to the FBI’s Internet Crime Report 2022, the federal agency’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) received 800,944 complaints throughout 2022 — the previous five-year average for complaints received stands at 652,000 per year.
